Demand for heating and electricity means that a big proportion of carbon emissions are linked to buildings. To reduce these emissions we need to stop wasting energy and rethink the way that the energy we do need is produced. Renewable energy technologies (solar photovoltaic (PV), solar thermal, wind turbines, wood fuel boilers, air/ground source heat pumps, anaerobic digestion, small-scale hydro) enable us to generate clean energy to heat and power buildings and do something positive for our communities.

Well-sited and chosen solutions can provide a high proportion of the energy needed, reducing energy bills and paying for themselves in a relatively short time. Renewables that produce electricity can already generate an income through the sale of electricity back to the grid. This situation is set to improve even further as the Government introduces a Feed-in Tariff (FIT) from April 2010 to provide a guaranteed payment for electricity units (kWh) generated. Producing heat and power locally also gives greater control to communities. For example, money generated through the sales of electricity could support local projects. It also builds resilience against fluctuating energy prices and concerns that we are reaching peak oil (and the end of cheap prices).

At renewables4communities™ we want to see a renewables revolution led by well-informed and empowered communities. This is not only vital for our efforts to tackle climate change but also brings wider opportunities.

To help make this happen we offer independent and affordable renewable energy services for businesses, community groups and other organisations, across Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire and neighbouring counties (offices located in Cumbria and Manchester).

Technologies that produce low cost energy from renewable sources can generate income and reduce emissions (e.g.CO2) that contribute to climate change. The bewildering array of renewable energy technologies, and installers waiting to offer solutions, can leave you struggling to determine which options are best. Making the right choice depends on many factors and requires research, know-how and a passion for renewable energy. This is where we come in.
